This article explains the backups we take of your shared hosting account, how to ask for a restore, and how to make your own full account backup in cPanel so you always have a copy you control.
The backups we keep
All EDZNET shared hosting plans include automated daily backups with 7-day retention. You don't need to switch anything on. If you need files, a database or email put back from one of those backups, open a support ticket and tell us:
- the domain or cPanel username,
- what needs restoring (the whole account, a folder, a database or a mailbox),
- the date you'd like it restored from, within the last 7 days.
Older backups roll off after 7 days, so don't wait if you notice a problem. A restore also overwrites the current copy of whatever is restored, so tell us if you'd rather have it put in a separate folder.
Download a full account backup yourself
Our backups are there for emergencies. For your own peace of mind, and before big changes like a redesign or a migration, keep a copy off the server.
- Log in to cPanel and go to Files › Backup.
- Under Full Backup, click Download a Full Account Backup.
- Choose a Backup Destination:
- Home Directory saves the archive in your account, ready to download.
- Remote FTP Server or Remote FTP Server (passive mode transfer) sends it straight to another server. Enter the remote server, username, password, port (usually 21) and the remote directory.
- Secure Copy (SCP) does the same over SSH, if the other server supports it.
- Enter an email address to be told when it's finished, then click Generate Backup.
- When the email arrives, go back to Files › Backup. The archive is listed under Backups Available for Download, with a name like
backup-10.14.2026_09-30-00_username.tar.gz. Click it to download.
Good to know
- A backup saved to your home directory counts towards your disk space. Download it, store it somewhere safe (your computer or cloud storage), then delete it from the server in File Manager. See checking disk space and bandwidth.
- You can't restore a full account backup from inside cPanel. If you need one restored, for example when moving an account to us from another cPanel host, open a ticket and we'll advise.
- To back up or restore only your files, a database or your email settings, use partial backups instead.
