How to Point Your Domain to EDZNET Hosting (Change Nameservers) Print

  • 0

To run your website and email on EDZNET hosting, your domain needs to use our nameservers. This article shows you where to change them, whether your domain is registered with us or with another company.

Before you start

  • Find our nameservers. They're listed in your hosting welcome email and in the client area on your hosting service's page. Use exactly the ones given there.
  • Check your existing records. If you already use email or other services on the domain, note your current MX and TXT records first. Our DNS checker shows what's live right now. Once you switch nameservers, only the records in your EDZNET DNS zone apply.
  • Change them at your registrar. Nameservers are changed with the company the domain is registered with, which may not be your old host.

If your domain is registered with EDZNET

  1. Log in to the client area.
  2. Go to Domains › My Domains and click the domain.
  3. Open Nameservers and choose to use custom nameservers.
  4. Enter our nameservers (at least two) and click Change Nameservers.

If your domain is registered elsewhere

Every registrar has a nameservers page. The steps are the same everywhere: log in, find the domain, choose to use your own or custom nameservers, enter ours in place of the old ones, and save. Menu names change from time to time, but here's where to look at some common registrars:

RegistrarWhere to look
GoDaddyYour domain list › the domain › DNS › Nameservers › Change, then choose to enter your own nameservers
NamecheapDomain List › Manage › Nameservers, then choose Custom DNS

Name.comMy Domains › the domain › Manage Nameservers
DynadotMy Domains › Manage Domains › the domain's DNS settings › Name Servers
LogicBoxes-based registrars (such as NetEarthOne and many resellers)Find the domain order › Name Servers › update

If you can't find the setting, your registrar's help pages will have the current steps.

Alternative: keep your DNS where it is

You don't have to change nameservers. If you'd rather keep DNS with your current provider (for example because other services depend on it), update just the records that matter instead: the A records for example.co.uk and www to point at your hosting server, and the MX record if your email is moving to us too. The server details are in your welcome email; if you're unsure what to change, open a ticket and we'll tell you.

How long does it take?

The registrar usually records the change within minutes, but DNS caches around the world can hold the old details for up to 24 to 48 hours. During that time some visitors may still see your old host. You can watch progress with an NS lookup in our DNS propagation checker.
