  • 0

This article shows you how to change your cPanel password when you can log in, and how to reset it from the client area if you've forgotten it.

Change your password in cPanel

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. Go to Preferences › Password & Security.
  3. Enter your Old Password.
  4. Enter a New Password and confirm it, or click Password Generator to create a strong one.
  5. Click Change your password now!

Reset a forgotten password from the client area

  1. Log in to the client area.
  2. Go to Services and choose your hosting plan.
  3. Click Change Password, enter a new password twice and save.

You can also skip the password altogether by using Login to cPanel on the same page. See how to log in to the client area, cPanel and webmail.

Good to know

  • This changes the main cPanel account password only. Email accounts, extra FTP accounts and database users have their own passwords and aren't affected.
  • Use a long, unique password that you don't use anywhere else. A password manager (such as Bitwarden, 1Password or the one built into your browser) makes this easy.
  • Anything that logs in with the main cPanel username, such as an FTP app or a Web Disk connection, will need the new password. If an app keeps retrying the old one, the firewall may block your IP. See how to get your IP unblocked.
  • For extra protection, turn on two-factor authentication in cPanel.
