Web Disk lets you open your hosting files like a folder on your computer, so you can drag and drop files without a separate FTP app. This article shows you how to connect, and how to create extra Web Disk accounts that can only reach one folder.
Connect with the main account
Your main Web Disk account uses your cPanel username and password and can see all your files.
- Log in to cPanel and go to Files › Web Disk.
- Next to the main account, click Access Web Disk (shown as Configure Client Access on some versions).
- Choose your operating system and version, then download the configuration script.
- Run the downloaded file. On Windows it adds a network location; on macOS it opens a connection in Finder.
- When asked, enter your cPanel username and password (or the Web Disk account's own login).
Web Disk connects securely over port 2078 (SSL). If it won't connect, your network may block that port (try another connection such as mobile data), or several failed attempts may have blocked your IP.
Create an additional Web Disk account
Use this to give someone, such as a web designer, access to one folder only.
- In Files › Web Disk, fill in Create an Additional Web Disk Account.
- Enter a Username and choose the domain. The login will be the full name, for example
designer@example.co.uk. - Enter a strong Password, or use Password Generator.
- Set the Directory the account can reach, for example
public_html/images. Only give access to your whole home folder if they really need it. - Choose Permissions: Read-Write or Read-Only.
- Leave Enable Digest Authentication off unless a Windows computer won't connect; it's only needed when connecting without SSL.
- Click Create, then use Access Web Disk next to the new account to download its configuration script.
To remove access later, click Delete next to the account in the list.
Alternatives
Web Disk can be slow with large uploads. For moving lots of files, FTP is usually faster. See FTP accounts and connecting with FileZilla.
