An addon domain lets you run a completely separate website, such as example2.co.uk, from the same cPanel account as your main site. This article covers adding one and removing it again. Whether you can add addon domains, and how many, depends on your hosting plan.
Before you start
For the new site to load, the domain must point to your hosting. Either set its nameservers to ours (they're in your hosting welcome email and the client area; see how to point your domain to EDZNET) or point its A record at your server. You can add the domain in cPanel first and update DNS afterwards.
Add an addon domain
- Log in to cPanel and go to Domains › Domains.
- Click Create A New Domain.
- Enter the domain, for example
example2.co.uk. - Untick Share document root. This gives the new domain its own folder and makes it a separate website. If you leave it ticked, the domain just shows your main site (an alias; see parking a domain).
- Check the Document Root that cPanel suggests (for example
example2.co.ukin your home directory) or change it to a folder you prefer. - Click Submit.
Upload the new site's files to that document root, or install WordPress into it with WordPress Toolkit. Once DNS points to us, AutoSSL issues a free certificate for the new domain automatically.
Remove an addon domain
- Go to Domains › Domains.
- Click Manage next to the domain.
- Click Remove Domain and confirm.
Removing the domain doesn't delete its files. The document root folder stays in your account until you delete it in File Manager, so download a copy first if you need one. Email accounts for that domain should be removed separately under Email › Email Accounts.
Want the domain to redirect instead?
If you only want example2.co.uk to send visitors to another website, add it as above and then set up a redirect. See how to redirect a domain or page.
