How to Create a cPanel Account in WHM Print

  • 0

As a reseller, you create a cPanel account in WHM for each website you host for a customer. This article walks you through it. You'll need at least one package set up first: see creating packages in WHM.

  1. Log in to WHM at https://example.co.uk:2087 (using your own domain), or with the one-click login on your reseller service in the client area.
  2. Go to Account Functions › Create a New Account, or type Create in the search box at the top left.
  3. Under Domain Information, fill in:
    • Domain: the customer's domain, such as example.co.uk, without www.
    • Username: filled in automatically from the domain. You can change it, but it can't easily be changed later.
    • Password: use Password Generator for a strong one and keep a copy somewhere safe.
    • Email: the customer's contact address for account notices. Don't use a mailbox on the domain you're creating.
  4. Under Package, choose the package that sets the account's limits.
  5. Under Settings, leave the theme as Jupiter and set the Locale (language) if needed.
  6. Under Mail Routing Settings, keep Automatically Detect Configuration unless the customer's email is hosted elsewhere, in which case choose Remote Mail Exchanger.
  7. Under DNS Settings, keep Enable DKIM and Enable SPF ticked. They help the customer's email get delivered.
  8. Click Create. WHM shows a summary when the account is ready.

After creating the account

  • Point the domain. The customer's domain needs to use our nameservers (they're in your hosting welcome email and in the client area), or your own branded nameservers if you've set them up. See custom nameservers.
  • SSL. AutoSSL issues a free certificate once the domain points to the server. This normally happens automatically. You can check it in the customer's cPanel under Security › SSL/TLS Status.
  • Send the login details. Give your customer the cPanel address (https://example.co.uk:2083 or https://example.co.uk/cpanel), username and password over a secure channel, and ask them to change the password when they first log in.

If WHM says you've reached an account or resource limit, your reseller plan's allocation is full. Contact support about upgrading.
