How to Change an Account's Limits, Package or Password in WHM Print

  • 0

This article covers the everyday changes you'll make to a customer's cPanel account in WHM: moving it to another package, adjusting individual limits, changing its password, making the customer choose a new password, and setting a bandwidth limit.

Move an account to a different package

  1. Log in to WHM and go to Account Functions › Upgrade/Downgrade an Account.
  2. Select the account and click Upgrade/Downgrade.
  3. Choose the new package and confirm.

The account takes on all the limits and the feature list of the new package. See creating, editing and deleting packages.

Change one account's limits

  1. Go to Account Functions › Modify an Account.
  2. Select the account and click Modify.
  3. Change what you need, such as the disk quota, the number of email accounts or databases, or the contact email address.
  4. Click Save.

Changes made here apply to that account only, and editing its package later can overwrite them. For lasting differences it's usually cleaner to create a separate package.

Change an account's password

  1. Go to Account Functions › Password Modification.
  2. Select the account.
  3. Enter a new password or use Password Generator, then click Change Password.

Leave the option to sync the MySQL password with the account password unticked unless you're sure the customer's websites don't use it to connect to their databases. Otherwise you could break a site.

Make customers choose a new password

  1. Go to Account Functions › Force Password Change.
  2. Tick the accounts, or use Select All.
  3. Click Submit. Each customer is asked to set a new password the next time they log in to cPanel.

This is useful after a security incident or when an account changes hands.

Set a bandwidth limit

  1. Go to Account Functions › Limit Bandwidth Usage.
  2. Select the account and click Limit.
  3. Enter a monthly limit in megabytes, or choose Unlimited if your reseller plan allows it, then click Change.

When an account goes over its bandwidth limit, its website stops loading until the next month or until you raise the limit, so allow some headroom.
