This article shows you how to change the password for an email account, whether you manage the hosting in cPanel or just use the mailbox.
In cPanel
Use this if you manage the hosting account, or if someone has forgotten their mailbox password.
- Log in to cPanel and go to Email › Email Accounts.
- Click Manage next to the email address.
- Under Security, enter a New Password, or click Generate for a strong one.
- Click Update Email Settings.
In webmail
Use this if you know the current password and want to change it yourself.
- Log in to webmail at
https://example.co.uk/webmailwith your full email address and current password. - Open the account menu (your email address, top right) and choose Password & Security.
- Enter and confirm the new password, then save.
Update every device straight away
After changing the password, update it in every app and device that uses the mailbox: your phone, tablet, Outlook or other mail app on each computer, and anything else that sends mail through it, such as a website contact form or an office scanner.
This matters: a device that keeps trying the old password causes repeated failed logins, and the server firewall may then block your IP address. If your email stops connecting from one location after a password change, see Blocked by the firewall? How to get your IP unblocked.
