An autoresponder sends an automatic reply to people who email you, which is ideal when you're on holiday or out of the office. Because it runs on the server, it works whether or not your computer is switched on.
Create an autoresponder
- Log in to cPanel and go to Email › Autoresponders.
- If you have more than one domain, choose the right one from the Managing menu.
- Click Add Autoresponder.
- Fill in the details:
- Interval: how many hours to wait before replying to the same sender again.
24is a good choice, so someone who emails you several times in a day gets one reply.0replies to every message. - Email: the address to reply for, such as
youforyou@example.co.uk. - From: the name the reply comes from.
- Subject: for example

- Interval: how many hours to wait before replying to the same sender again.
- Set the Start time: Immediately or a date and time.
- Set the Stop time. Choosing a date means it switches itself off when you're back; Never leaves it running until you delete it.
- Click Create.
Edit or remove an autoresponder
On the Autoresponders page, find the address under Current Autoresponders. Click Edit to change it, or Delete and confirm to switch it off.
Good to know
- Mail is still delivered to your mailbox as normal while the autoresponder is on.
- Keep the message short and avoid sharing personal details, such as when your home will be empty.
- If you've also set an out-of-office reply in Outlook, turn one of them off so people don't get two replies.
